Prestashop 1.7.4.0 stable version Released: What are New Features?

Prestashop has continually evolved with improvements and enhancement for a better user interface. This release includes new features that will enhance the merchants’ experience, like UI and performance and technical improvements for developers. Here are the highlights of Prestashop 1.7.4.0, which is introduced in latest update.

What’s new?

Improved back office design

• • It will works better on mobile devices.

• New menu design and it’s scrollable.
• Improved header
• Now, it’s based on Bootstrap 4 final.

Theme customization

Here is one amazing feature introduced in Prestashop 1.7.4: Main Theme Modules Cartography! As each part of the backend belongs to a dedicated module, every little change brings back to the “Modules” page to find the related module to access its configuration page which is instinctive for merchants. Now the theme modules cartography in homepage configuration tab allows a quick theme customization!

On the left side, you can see an illustration of the homepage which enables you to find out the part in which you want to modify. It shows a simplified view of the PrestaShop front office with this interactive wireframe. On the right side, a mirrored view shows different category tab, where you can select the module you want to configure.

Here homepage is divided into 7 different categories:

• Menu
• Slider
• Home Products
• Text Block
• Banner
• Social & Newsletter
• Footer

Each category has a collapsible tab to display related features from both core pages and native modules. Where features can be installed, configured or disabled. By clicking on the Configure button, the merchant will be redirected to the feature configuration page.

Advanced Customization

This tab is for technical developers and merchants who want to customize their theme using the Parent/Child theme feature, which has been introduced in prestashop 1.7

1- Download your current theme

• By clicking on “Download theme”, you can get a zip of the current theme.

2- Edit the child theme

• Once the child theme created, next step is to apply the changes you want within the desired files, it will handle the customization part without touching parent files.

3- Upload the child theme

• Here you can upload your child theme zip.
• Once uploaded, the child theme will be shown in your Theme & Logo section.

Added support for PHP 7.2

In Prestashop 1.7.4 stable version, they have added support for php 7.2 also.

SEO improvements

To improve SEO, HTML tags has been improved in Homepage, Product page and Category pages of “Classic” theme. To develop theme based on “Classic”, you have to update them. Pages with multiple language versions include “hreflang” links in the “head” section.
